Sam Kang Traveled To New York With Just $700 To Pursue His Dream To Be Head Chef
Next month, Bravo will premiere a new season of Top Chef, including 15 participants. Sam Kang is one of the outstanding chefs competing in Season 19 to display his culinary abilities. Kang has traversed the globe to learn about diverse cuisines and tastes. He is not only a fantastic cook but also a fantastic instructor. He is presently employed as a chef instructor, where he teaches culinary skills to enthusiastic pupils.

Kang has always wanted to be a head chef. He left his hometown of Gardena, California, in 2010 for New York with just $700 in his pocket. His professional career began at Momofuku Ko, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant owned by Chef David Chang. In 2012, after studying the fundamentals of cooking, he joined Chef Daniel Humm’s three Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park. There, he learned the benefits of collaboration, talent, and organization.
Four years later, he returned to Momofuku Ko as a sous chef and assisted Chef David Chang in opening Bar Way. In the new enterprise, he was the Chef de Cuisine. By traveling worldwide, Kang learned more about cuisines, including Cambodia, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Japan, Laos, France, Spain, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. According to his website, his culinary expertise is termed the “Art of Cooking Without Cooking,” according to his website.
Top Chef Season 19: Everything You Need to Know
Kang and the other 14 candidates must overcome several challenging obstacles to complete the competition season. They will be judged by Top Chef presenter Padma Lakshmi, as well as head judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons.
The winner will earn a $250,000 cash prize, a feature in Food and Wine magazine, and the title of Top Chef America. Top Chef Season 19 is planned to begin on Bravo on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).
