Micheal Ward is a Jamaican-born British model and actor who is well known for appearing in the British film Blue Story (2019) as Marco and the television series Top Boy (2019) as Jamie and The A List (2018) as Brendan.

Micheal Ward was born on Tuesday, November 18, 1997 (age 23 years; as of 2020), in Spanish Town, Jamaica. His zodiac sign is Scorpio.

When he was four his family migrated to Hackney, London, where he spent his childhood. In the bustling multicultural district Hackney, he witnessed many seemingly harmless events escalating to dangerous levels. In an interview, he said,

I was too scared to go to those parts of London when I was growing up!… Especially back then – you knew south London wasn’t the place to be. I just didn’t wanna go there. Same with Hackney. Not for me.”

He relocated to Romford during his teenage days, where he did his schooling at Chadwell Heath Academy. At school, he was intrigued by the world of acting when he played the role of Macduff, the main antagonist in William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Macbeth.’ In an interview, he said,

The thing that made me want to be an actor was Macbeth…We did a modern version at school and I was playing Macduff. It just really sparked something in me: I loved it!”

Thereafter, he pursued a course in the performing arts at Epping Forest College in Loughton, England [1]. He began his career as a model at the age of seventeen after which he signed with an agent.

Career

At the age of 16, he worked as a delivery boy at his auntie’s Caribbean restaurant in Chadwell Heath. Before venturing into the entertainment industry, Ward worked in a bookie shop, where one can legally place bets in person with a licensed bookmaker. At college, one of his teachers took a shine to him. Later, when she left her teaching job to work for an acting agency, she signed up Ward with the agency, which led him to book a few small roles in music videos. At the age of seventeen, he won a modeling contest that led him to be the face of the e-commerce site JD Sports, where he modeled for sportswear.

Gigantic billboard in Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip featuring Ward led to him being internationally in demand. In 2018, he was one of the featured models in the SOS symposium conference materials. Later, the former JD model became the face of Louis Vuitton’s AW20 campaign.

He appeared as a supporting artist in the background of the British drama film Brotherhood (2016).

In 2019, he came into the limelight when he played the role of Marco in the British crime drama film ‘Blue Story.’ The film is based around the estates of London, looking at the effects that the drug gangs have on the lives of teens growing up there. In the film, two best friends, Marco and Timmy, are dragged into an ongoing gang rivalry between their areas, which leads them into the life of crime.

In 2020, he appeared in the British anthology film series ‘Small Axe,’ which consists of five films that tell distinct stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from 1960 to 1980. Ward played the role of Franklyn Cooper in the episode titled “Lovers Rock.” The episode exhibits the story of two lovers, Franklyn and Martha, who meet at a reggae house party in West London in 1980. Ward earned the nomination for BAFTA TV Award (2021) for playing the role of Franklyn.

In the 2020 American superhero film ‘The Old Guard,’ he played the role of Lykon, the only known immortal who dies. The film follows a covert team of immortal mercenaries whose identities are suddenly exposed. Hence, they fight to keep their identity a secret; meanwhile, discovering a new unexpected member.

OTT/Web Series 

In 2018, he made his digital debut with the British teen thriller series ‘The A List’ in which he played the role of Brendan. The series centers around Mia, a popular girl who arrives at a summer camp in Peregrine Island expecting to be the queen bee until she meets Amber, a mysterious figure who instantly becomes the center of attention. In the series, Brendan teams up with Mia to investigate the secrets of Peregrine Island.

The A List (2018)

He struck stardom in 2019 when he played the protagonist Jamie in the third season of the 2011 British television crime drama ‘Top Boy.’ In the series, Jamie is an East London boy rising to prominence in Hackney’s drug-dealing gang, simultaneously looking after his two young brothers. Ward was nominated in the category of Best Actor (Male) at the RTS Programme Awards (2020) for playing the role of Jamie.

In 2017, he appeared in the music video of the song “Blessings” by Tom Walker. In 2018, he appeared in the music video of the song “Trigger Bang” by Lily Allen.

He starred in the music video of the song “Black” by the British rapper-singer Dave. In 2020, he starred in ‘Good Thanks, You?’ as Lewis, which earned the title of ‘Best Short Film’ at the Tweetfest Film Festival (2020). The film deals with the lead character’s traumatic experience and the after-effects.
