Jesse Williams says getting naked on stage for Broadway play is 'terrifying in all the right ways'

He bade farewell in May to Grey’s Anatomy after 12 seasons on the ABC medical drama.

And in an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jesse Williams joked about how, for his next acting gig, he has to strip naked on stage.

The actor, 39, is making his Broadway debut in the play Take Me Out which requires him to get naked.

‘Yeah, the character does call for a little bit of nudity,’ he told Ellen’s guest host tWitch in an interview to air Friday.

‘What I will say about that is it’s terrifying in all the right ways. I’m looking to be challenged in all the right ways.’ 

It’s a case of take two for Williams who had been about three weeks into rehearsals for the production last year when the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down.  

‘We’re incredibly lucky. We get to go back and get another shot at this thing,’ he said.

Williams made his final appearance as Dr. Jackson Avery in the May 20th episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

He originally joined the show in the sixth season as Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital’s chief of plastic surgery. 

‘As an actor, director and person, I have been obscenely lucky to learn so much from so many and I thank our beautiful fans, who breathe so much energy and appreciation into our shared worlds,’ he shared at the time.
